Photos of An Hoa airstrip in '68...

#1 Postby Al Treska » Thu Feb 22, 2007 3:39 pm

I would like to see some photos of the An Hoa airstrip, specially of us waiting to be airlifted to Phu Bai in Jan 68.

Also, interested in seeing other photos of the An Hoa basecamp.

In Feb 97 I visited the remnants of the basecamp. The asphalt airstrip that replaced the perforated metal airstrip is still in place but not much else. Some earthen revetments along the airstrip are still visible. I bought six dogtags from a farmer and posted the names and serial numbers on the Internet. One fella responded and I sent him the dogtag, but I never received a thank you.

If you are planning to visit Vietnam you can see the former basecamp area and the ancient Cham ruins at My Son on the same drive. My Son is only a few miles from the district of Duc Duc (pronounced "duck you") where the basecamp was located.

You can find info on My Son by doing a search on the Internet.

Al,

There are some photos of the An Hoa base (from the Seabee perspective) at www.seabee-rvn.com in the MCB-3 gallery. There are also some aerial views of the base contributed by a Marine
